Coax Ratings?

#39031

Post by Rex_foxhound »

I've been looking for a post on how much power different size coax can handle. I thought there was one in the past but it may have gotten lost.
I basically want to know how many atts each type of coax can handle. RG8X, 213, 9913, etc.

Thanks KP280!!

So how much power will RG-8X handle?

Kinda curious so I don't fry the stock coax on my Wilson 5000 mag mount.

I was wondering the same thing,.. just ordered a wilson 5000 so I can put my winter shell on my truck, but figured if they rated the antenna at 5000 watts, they would put coax that could handle it.. hope so..lol

I know for a fact that the stock coax on a Wilson 5000 (rg-8x) will not handle 5000 watts like the antenna will.... i just need to know what exactly the coax IS rated at??? i've read 1000 watts, 1500 watts, ...

on a side note: If i was running 5000 watts or even close to it, you can bet i would NOT be using a Wilson 5000 in the 1st place. lol

ok. I read on Amateur Linear Amplifiers page that RG-8X will handle peak 1000 watts. I read somewhere else that it will handle 1500 watts.

I need to know the maximum amount of watts RG-8X will handle at CB frequencies.

I never did find an accurate chart.. all vary from 1000-1500..
I am just going to go ahead and replace mine as soon as I get it with what I am running now,. its a belden cable I got from wolfmans shops off 164&85 and its rated at 2500..
see it stand up to 2000 everyday.

Alot of places sell RG8X as 3000Watt cable, and 1500Watt cable, but in the real world it handles 1000Watts

hmmm... interesting.

I guess I'll have to upgrade just to be on the safe side for the future.

So, if you buy a Wilson 5000 and plan on running over 1000 watts, you'll have to upgrade the coax... dang it!!
