Halloween is time for shortwave pirates

Halloween has traditionally been a big night for shortwave pirate broadcasters to show up on the air. Lately, the main pirate area is from 6900-7000 khz. We will be taking the kiddos out trick-or-treating but I plan to leave the SDR set up to record while I'm gone.

Got back home from taking the kiddos out begging for candy, and found that Wolverine Radio made an appearance on 6955, was still going when I got into the shack. Conditions didn't appear to be very good because Wolverine is usually very strong at my location but he was fairly weak last night, even fading out completely for a few minutes. Whenever I get time I'll check the SDR recording, have three hours of radio spectrum from 6900-7000 to go through.

I didn't hear too much in that frequency range while I was listening for a little while.

Just some different types static at times.

Weekends are also good times to hear pirates, especially on Saturday evenings.

I went through several SW receiver, even built a couple Heathkit models while I worked for them here in Baltimore, but the best is the GCR (general coverage receiver) on my ham radio.

Not sure if this is related. But i'm interested into turning a old Midland 23ch into a 10 meter radio. Always like playing around. 16.455 MHz gives 28.060 to 28.500 MHz (10M Novice band)
