MFJ Gas Discharge Tube

Post by Dodgeman9669 »

I'm looking for the replacement gas discharge tube for an MFJ-1704 switch. Wondering if anyone might know a part # or where I can get one. Searched MFJ's sight and came up with nothing. I found one for a MFJ coax lightning arrestor but I'm not sure if it's the same part.

Its for lightning protection, I would think its the same. Did yours take a hit? Call them, they have good tech help.

I purchased one on eBay that was supposedly "tested and rang true". What a joke, two of the four copper tabs inside the switch were grounding out, there was extra wire soldered in on the main channel that was completely unnecessary and upon opening it up noticed right away this thing had taken a hit. Damn good thing I tested it myself before putting it into service, could've had some serious issues happen.

just read the one page very vague manual and they dont even give a replacement part number for the "pellet", not even the website. pshh mjf, figures. anyway first i would email or call dx engineering they are awesome and probably have or can get it for you, if not, next i would contact mfj for tech support. good luck. when it comes to coax switches and lightning protection devices always avoid buying used if you can help it. alpha delta makes the best switches with arc plugs in them. check em out, they are a great quality company.

The part you're looking for is the MFJ-97 and the cost is $9.95 from the Mfg. Unfortunately i can't seem to find it with our vendors. So i would check the Mfg website.

You could try MFJ themselves or an equivalent is the;
Alpha Delta TT3G50 200 W (manufacturer) EPCOS, EC350-00 O-350 VDC < 800 V 10 kA
or
Alpha Delta TT3G50HP 2000 W (manufacturer) Littelfuse, CG2-1000 0-1000 VDC Typ. < 1600 V 10 kA
The higher wattage Littelfuse model may come with pigtails that just have to be unsoldered.
