Louisiana Members Thread
Since there is no forum dedicated to states, regions etc. I decided to start this thread for Louisana Mwmbers. Post where your are from, handle and what channels your frequent the most.
Luling, La. And I go by 249 or SuperDave
I usually monitor 38LSB for DX and as for AM haven't found hardly any locals. I've heard a couple on 14AM but they are mostly truckers.

Doesn't seem like it.
Being born and raised in Georgia(UGA Alumni as well) I was used to hearing a decent amount of chatter on the radio but not too much going on here.

Ponchatoula, La
512 or back home it just "Hey Matt"
Listing to 19am since I grew up around trucking. No SSB radio yet, I should have never sold my my grant export.
And like SuperDave radio is pretty quite down here compared to Indiana where I grew up. Except for normal truck traffic and those guys who repeat the dumb line while screaming at the top of their lungs.
Hey SuperDave know any good shops around hear?

I've been listening to 38LSB every morning this week on my drive to work but it's been dead. If I leave for lunch it's usually rolling by then.Lost Ram wrote:Shreveport La. here, actually Blanchard its a little town north and west of Shreveport.

I'll be sure to listen for ya. I haven't put an amp in my new truck yet but I have a TS500v that needs to be installed.
Thanks for replying fellas!

Re: Louisiana Members Thread
I dont key down much in the morning, just listen, I work out of my shop so its business time until I get all my orders packed and ready to go. I am not sure we could even communicate that distance, I have however talked some very short skip but its not often it happens. My local limit is about 50 miles by crow when I got the station running HOT. I could get further with my beam if I raised it back up but at 20-ish feet it seams to be the sweet spot for DX/skip so I have not moved it.

Re: Louisiana Members Thread
I was born in Shreveport and went back regularly for years. There used to be a ton of operators around Shreveport, and they had a big group called "Louisiana Rebel Control". I operated there in the summer visiting relatives and was LRC#92, nice folks. This was back when there were clubs all over but I wonder if there are any left there.
Most must be dead, but Ram, you're close, there is still a set of moonrakers up in that city, on East Kings Highway, near Shreve Island, with a bunch of ivy now on the tower/pole. i was there recently visiting a 95 year old ham I know that is still alive. I wonder if there is some dead guy's stuff in there at the moonraker house waiting to be discovered.
I think ch28 was the channel, or maybe channel 4, it has been too long. I later showed up one summer with a boomer 150 on a battery and charger and angered them all. What can I say, I was 15.
I recall that my range there back then with a barefoot zachary T and a penetrator at only 20 feet was about 40 miles out to other strong bases, much much better than it was for me here in north tx, I guess due to soil conductivity and terrain.

Yeah, I highly doubt we could make that trip but I'll listen during skip time for the guys calling back to you. Haha
I'm hoping to get my TS500 installed one week.. I've been working skip fairly well with my 20watt Roadtalker and 5' SkipShooter antenna.

Re: Louisiana Members Thread
I've talked to a couple locals on 28AM and 27.415LSB, but I don't have a base yet so I don't get to be on the radio very much. I've got a dipole I made that will go in the attic but I'm not sure how the output will be with the foil backed roof. I have it strung up in the garage at the moment testing out a Galaxy 959 and a RM Italy 203p, but it looks like the amp has a problem.
I need to find another export so I can get access to the freebands at the base station.

Hi
Plenty of activity on 27.235 AM. There's a group of 7 in Abbeville that talk daily and about 5 more that read the mail. Also operators in Opelousas, Lafayette and Ville Platte hang out on 24. We try not to walk on each other.

Re: Louisiana Members Thread
Hello,
A simple Loop @ 270' Long will be multi band from 6-80 meter with a 1:1 current balun and fed with some 450 ohm ladder line. 570' Long gets you to 160 meter. What bands can you talk on? I can do 160 up to 2 meter. Also a dipole 250' Long will do 6-160 meter if fed in the same manor but with a 4:2 or 2:1 voltage balun. Dont be concerned about how high you get, just build it and have fun. the loop can even be a triangle, trapezoid, octagon, ect. Just be sure its not a perfect square or rectangle as the two adjacent lines of the feed will cancel each other some.
