Galaxy DX959 Clarifier Mod

I was just reading a post here about the DX 959's drifting problem. And BrownDogAudio mentioned to tie the RX and TX together on the clarifier. Wondering if anybody had tried that. And how well it works. But most importantly, how is it done

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do all my radios this way with SSB. to me it is what I like to do.

These are the tried and true method for the Galaxy 9x9 radios and related radios using the same board and PLL. There are other ways of doing it but these seem to be the most stable. If there was a way to still get Super Slider Diodes like there was in the late 80's and 90's, you could open up the clarifier even further, maybe even +10kc. However the supply of said diodes has ran short as of recent years. Thanks for the nod btw Beachbum24, nice to be noticed! :D

Also just a side note, the 979 has the TX/RX tied together from the factory on the older radios. Not sure why they didn't on the 949, 959 etc.

I forgot to mention that after the clarifier range mod is done. The alignment is ABSOLUTELY the most important step, and must be done correctly. And also keep in mind that the freq (counter) on these radios is not the most sensitive, so what you see on a good 7 digit bench freq counter or even a FC347, may not match what the one built into the radio shows. Once you center your clarifier and realign the radio, this will tie your tx/rx together. Its not a perfect match, but far far closer than factory. Just to answer your question as to how they tie together Beachbum...

Well it looks like i'm the dork. That was one of the first mods i did to my radio. I guess when i read to tie the rx/tx together. My little brain thought to open it up, and connect a jumper or something on the back of the clarifier. Thanks for setting me straight.
Almost forgot. I have no way of doing a alignment myself. Any suggestions. Or do i just need to find me a tech.

The clarifier mod on a Galaxy radio is a must for SSB use, adding a six digit counter is recommended too.

I did do it already. That's why i called myself the dork. It's just when i heard them talking about connecting the tx/rx together on the clarifier. I thought it was a different mod. And alls i need for the 10Kc mod is a 4.7k resistor. Does it really need to exactly 4.7? I'll have to go through mine and see.

Yes the value of the resistor for that mod is specific.

Most of the time the 10kc mod is unnecessary. But for instance, here local we talk on 26.775. And that frequency is not available with the 2 switch mod. You will find that there are actually several skipped channels with the 2 switch mod on that Galaxy PLL. You can get .765 and then the next channel up is .785. So for me it was a must. Most channel kits and mods will include .775, ie. my cobra 2k. Depending on where you are, most in-between channels are not used, but there are occasions outside of straight AM40 that a 10kc can come in very handy. Also, when you are aligning a radio, most service manuals will have you go to 27.185 which is channel 19. This is because your alignment is done in the center of the band. 1-19-40. But if you want a true alignment for center of the band, its actually 27.195. Which is half way between 19 and 20. Doesn't really make a big difference as far as alignments go, but I'm kind of a perfectionist...lol
