Coax Connectors

#394410

Post by texpic »

I'm a newbie so have lots of questions. I have a Galaxy 959 and a Strker SR A10mm Magnetic Mount antenna. I also have more than one car but will probably use the CB in my 4-runner the most.

I'd like to run a coax from the CB to the roof with a connector on the roof. Would shorten the coax on the mag-base to a foot or so and use a connector when I was using it to my permanent coax. Good idea, bad idea?

I have some mechanical skills but I'm a hack; do I need someone with skills to shorten the mag-base cable?

With respect to coax, are there better coax cables than others. What is recommended?

Did I miss asking anything?

By the way, one big reason I'm worried about just keeping the coax running through my door is eventually I'll crimp and damage the cable. Should that be a concern?

Thanks for the help, appreciate it!!!

If you are going to drill a hole for the bulkhead coax connector you may as well install the antenna to a permanent mount, then all you need to do is unscrew the antenna. If you unscrew the antenna you will see it is a SO239. Installing a permanent mount then either the Stryker or a Wilson base load will work.
