Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
So, I got a Ranger AR3500 previously used, turns on, scans etc. I took it apart and I see that someone already did the frequency expansion modification (has the connector across the 3 pins), however when I turn it on it only shows the regular 28-29 frequencies. Is there something else that I should be doing to access the 2400 to 29.999 frequencies?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
I believe it needs to be programed for the 11m band but before that did you try to reset the CPU. Check the 3pin jumpers making sure they are a good connection.

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
I've tried to find some info on how to reset the CPU but so far have came up empty .Would you know where I can find instructions on resetting it? I will double check the 3 pin jumper to ensure that it has a good connection with all 3 pins.
Thank you for your response!

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
I have never had one cross my bench, my best guess is there is a tab or button on the CPU board which is attached to the faceplate. Looking at the schematic it shorts C300 (0.1uf capacitor) near IC300 (upC7536 PLL chip).

It is a **Non Sponsor Link** so it won't work but you can "Google" the radio yourself, it is the first one that pops up.Fantasma25 wrote: Feb 15 2019, 12:35 jon6667,

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
Lol! OK, now I understand.By the way, I did check to make sure that the 3 pins were connected correctly, which they were. I spent some time looking looking for that cpu reset switch , will check more closely this week end.

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
Remove the bottom cover.
Locate the three pins near the front of the radio
Solder a jumper between these three pins. Radio now has from 26.000 MHz to 29.999 MHz.

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
Jon6667,
It already has it the jumper, however, for some reason it still only shows 28000-29.9999. I currently did one of the soft mods which involves programming the cpu and was able to take down to 26.000 but when I try to have it scan the 26.000 band it automatically goes back to 28.00
Regards,
Fantasma

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
I think you are talking about the same connectors that are already jumped. They are the ones between the tall round metal pole and the cpu/faceplate.

Re: Ranger AR3500- Frequency Mod Question
All good on the Ranger, it turns out that one of the wires had become disconnected which is the reason why it would not go to the 11 meters. Once we found out where it went in the radio and connected back, the radio recovered the 26.000-30.000 frequencies.
