building a mic adapter with foot pedal

#228198

Post by Twink »

i'm thinking of building a little device where i can wire a standard 1/8" studio mic into my radio, and wire in a foot pedal to key it. anyone done anything like this or have any info? i see redman's got something similar for like $80 or so, don't remember, but i'm sure this can easily be made for less than $30

i'm thinking i'm gonna build a little steel box with a pedal, and when the pedal is pushed it will actuate a push button switch that i'm thinking i can just pick up from autozone. am i on the right track? if i get this done, i think i'm gonna build a toy box with multiple inputs, foot pedal, key lock, so on. i'm thinking this all can be done with a little patience.

I have a Heil PR-781 on a topless boom with a foot pedal. You can get generic foot pedals for $9.75. I will send you the link if you would like. My foot switch was a bit more, at like $34 but it's Heil brand and quality.

Just FYI, I used the Heil cabling, but for my Kenwood, it's 8 pin plug, but coming off the plug was a 1/8" studio jack, and that's where my foot switch, or hand switch plugs in. I do like the foot switch b/c I can sit and work with my hands while operating the radio. I like to tinker on other radios while jaw-jacking.

Yes the pic I posted is a Heil adapter, I have used them but in my case the cords are usually too short. I have found a couple hand PTT that are in an "ON/ON" configuration so I can make these adapters for electronic switching radios that need a separate TX/RX circuit.
