Antron 99
So... I’ve been running my A99 for years with a barley visible SWR reading. This RMS vs PEAK power rating has me concerned. I’m getting a new toy that is capable of a 1,500 watt dead key to 2,500 PEAK.
This is where I’m confused. The A99 is rated at 2K Peak.
Is this peak RMS? As I have always been taught that peak power or swing isn’t true power just modulation.
Would it be safe to say that its capable of handling this continuous (RMS) power?

If you are asking me, my answer is "NO!!". I haven't seen it myself but have heard of Antron's melting at 500w RMS. If your spending the money for a lot of talk power I'd throw a few toward a better antenna system. JMO.

Ok so I guess I will go with a V5000 and Keep my RG8 coax. It should handle 4K.
Thanks

From what I’ve seen they are only rated to 1500 watts

ok first, there is no such thing as peak rms. rf output power levels are either pep or average, one or the other not a combination of both. thats contradictory in terms. next, " peak power or swing isn’t true power just modulation". that makes absolutely no sense at all. rf pep output power is the highest points (peaks) of the rf envelope which is achieved thru the introduction of modulation. its still rf power. audio is not rf power. forget that cb misinformation. ok now, as for the antron 99. no more than 600w on that antenna if that. they are extremely over rated for marketing purposes and like mdy said, there are lots of melting stories and pictures on those antennas at low power. if your gonna spend the money on a big box, spend the money on a real antenna as well.

Thanks 51
I’ve ordered theV5000. Additional 20’ of tower and digging a hole for hinge plate and a gin pole. Not taking any chance. I like to do things right and do it once.

Sound advice and wise approach to upgrade. In the UK I have to get my aerial up above the local TV aerials. As next door to me is just feet away. Got to watch the waves.
