Microphone 6 pin to 4 pin adapter

Post by materielgeneral »

Hello all,
Need some advice on the proper adapter. I bought a couple CB's, a Cobra 18 WX ST and a Radio Shack TRC-446 at a yard sale for $3.00 each. They were pretty grubby so I was wiping them down with sanitizing wipes. When I removed the microphone on the TRC-446 the part that goes inside the radio itself separated. Apparently it had a break and the 6 metal pins separated from the part that goes inside the radio(see picture).

I was able to re assemble it(not tested yet) and super glued it back together. If it works cool, as the hand mike has channel buttons on it.

Now what my problem is, is that it is a 6 pin and I want to adapt it to a more common 4 pin connection. Looking on the net and on the auction site, there is to many labels. For example on **Non Sponsor** sells three different 6 to 4 pin adapters. This is how each one is labeled.

WORKMAN C4PDF6 CB RADIO MICROPHONE ADAPTER 6 Pin DELTA

CB,HAM Radio 4 PIN TO 6 PIN PRESIDENT McKINLEY Radio MICROPHONE ADAPTER

CB,HAM 4 PIN COBRA TO 6 PIN RCI RANGER MICROPHONE ADAPTER

I asked **Non Sponsor** which would work and he was not for sure as he wasn't familiar with the TRC-446 radio. To me all of the above mentioned adapters look like the one I need but I am ignorant on the subject.

I just tried looking to upload a picture but don't see the button for it so I will describe the pin locations. Facing the end, at 12 O'clock is the U alignment depression. At 1 O'clock is the #1 pin. At about 4 O'clock is the #2 pin. At 6 O'clock is the #3 pin. At 7 O'clock is the #4 pin. At 11 O'clock is the #5 pin and in the center is the #6 pin.

I don't think the Radio Shack radios are wired the same as Cobra's...might be hard to find a adapter for that radio...You'll need to look for one that says it's for a Realistic (radio shack)...Most of the adapters are wired so you can use a standard 4-pin Mic that you just pick-up off the shelf, with radios that use 5 or 6 pin mic's...But if the adapter does not say it will work with the radio you have, then it's a gamble on whether or not it's going to work...

I've bought several "pig-tail" type adapters off the auction site that said they would work with my 5 pin cobra 2000, to a standard 4 pin mic, and neither one of them worked...shipped out of China, so not worth the expense of sending back...

If you want to try and wire a Mic up for that radio....This is the pin wiring I found that is supposed to be for the 446

That 446 is definitely a special radio, the mic has a channel control which to me wasn't needed. It would be easier to just get a new plug and wire the stock mic back up. You could buy any of the 4 pin Cobra/Galaxy/Uniden to 6 pin RCI and rewire it to work, a good shop shouldn't have problems doing either suggestions. You might want to give CB World, [Please login or register to view this link], a call and see if they carry an adapter but because it's an oddball radio I'll doubt it. GI Joe's might be your best bet, he could wire one up and get it mailed out to you in a day.
