Galaxy 94 dim mod?

#397593

Post by Antler24 »

So Ive got my Galaxy in the truck and all setup and Im loving it so far. The only thing I dont like about the radio is the dimming. The meter, freq counter, and channel display are very bright for night driving, but if I dim them the backlit display dims way faster and is completely black with the others at a comfortable level.

What Id like to do, is have the backlit display stay full brightness, and isolate the channel, freq counter, and meter to adjust with the dimming knob.

Is this possible? Difficult to do?

I don't have a radio with either to try and work it out for you. I would say it is possible. The dimmer control has it's own circuit, you would need to figure out what part goes to the back lighting and what is the meter/display. Both have a separate connector to the faceplate of the radio. You could start by cut and splice in a 100ohm resistor, that should dim the display more than the back lighting.
