RCI2980 Clairifier Mod

Well since I have been back on the air a couple of weeks, I have been doing a lot of SSB with the locals. The dual clairifier is really very troublesome for me to operate in this capacity, Sooo much different than talking skip. Can one of the newer single function knobs replace the factory one?

I believe the dual clarifier on those radios the course clarifier (outer knob) tunes TX and RX, the fine clarifier (inner knob) just does the RX. If the radio is aligned properly the both clarifiers should stay in the 12 o'clock position. To check this you can use a 1kc tone downloaded to iTunes, play that into the mic a a normal speaking volume, a frequency counter should read on channel 38 ie: 27.384 for LSB, 27.386 USB. I have seen a couple radio where they changed the pot to a single, just connect the course clarifier to single pot and tape the fine clarifier up (at the 12o'clock position) and leave it inside the radio.
