WEIRD CHANNEL SELECTOR? & WHATS DYNASCAN

So about a week ago i picked up an old cobra 85 for a dollar that did not work. Turns out the channel selection knob was dirty and after spinning it around a few times the channels started working.

The channel selector was misaligned so i thought i'd take the knob off and fix it, but the knob wouldn't budge, then i noticed some strange things like 22 and 23 being seperated like 1 and 23 should be and channel 1 is between channel numbers completely.

ALSO i would like to know what DYNASCAN refers to, is it a company that cobra owns or is it a joint effort?

You answered the second question yourself,, yes Dynascan was the manufacturer of Cobra radios. Back in the day those old synthesized channel controls could jump frequencies by carefully turning them in between indents, the space between 22 and 23 was basically for using a PA (public address) feature on some radios, that radio doesn't have a PA.

Oh thats interesting, so in that case the knob is on wrong and i need to fix it. I may have to open it up or something, doesn't look like the knob pulls off from the outside. Or maybe i'm just to delicate with it haha.

Usually the shaft on the channel selector has a flat spot making it impossible to put on wrong, only way it could be wrong is someone messed with the wiring. Not sure but the knob may have a set screw to hold it in place, most just pull off.
Yes I answer a lot of posts, normally I wait to see what others say first. I am no expert and would be the first to admit it but I do have a lot of experience.

yeah thats what i thought, as a kid i think you go around pulling the knobs off of everything haha. The reason i figured it was put on wrong was because the numbers were not correlating with the channels but mostly because the numbers didn't align in the little window.

I'm sure you have plenty of experience, thats why i ask questions here. As far as the internet goes there's very little info on CBs, probably because CBs were already on the decline in the mid 90s when the internet started catching on publicly.

It's a shame that the cell phone did the damage it did to the CB world. But CBs never were about calling up your mom to see when dinners ready haha thats for another band.

CBs are an adventure, it's not about "talking" to people for me. It's about the fact i CAN talk to people via electromagnetic waves. most people dial up their boss or send a text message to their wife and not care in the least about how it gets from point A to point B. From pixels on a screen to a wave traveling nigh the speed of light!


Sorry i went on a bit of a looney tunes rant there need to chill out.
