Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Got a Tram D201 a few weeks ago and it worked fine.
Last week I fried several condensors and now it
is an expensive boat anchor.
Some major Tram help would be beneficial.

Condensors are what the brits call capacitors. Remember condensors when setting timing on motors just a cap.MDYoungblood wrote: Aug 16 2019, 09:29Condensers or Capacitors??Blue Ox2 wrote: Aug 16 2019, 07:26 Got a Tram D201 a few weeks ago and it worked fine.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
My new radio, just bought this week, is a NOS PC 122 Uniden SSB. I paid just over a $ 100 for it, but it's small enough to fit in my car and was brand new still in the box. All I need now is an amp and another antenna. This radio is very small and should work well for a small car : )

Ordered a Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB, tuned and bluetooth mic from G.I. Joe's this past weekend for an upgrade in my jeep. Now I'm thinking to go with a small base station. Might be fun.

Just picked up a new Texas Ranger FC-390 frequency counter at my local CB shop. Been wanting a freq counter for a little while and picked it up at a good price.

I just picked up a pair of Baofeng bf-f8hp radios. I haven't programed them yet. Should be great for monitoring.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Hi. I recently foudn 2 items in an estate sale my wife dragged me to. One is a Cobra 135xlr SSB/AM Base Station. It is in the box and has all the original paper work that came with it. Manual, warranty, schematic and parts list. even has the original license request form. Not sure if it works but really want to try.
2nd piece is a Varmint Quad Power bi-linear Base Amp. An XL 1000. Again I have no clue as to wether it works or not. To be honest i have not used a CB in years and have no equipment to test this stuff. Thought about getting an antenna and setting it up, but the wife is kind not wanting me to get into any other hobbies at the moment. So that got nixed. Would appreciate any info on these things anyone can give me. I will more than likely get rid of them at some point. Thanks for the help.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
I have acquired a BK Precision 1040 & 2040 setup several months ago. It has been fully restored and calibrated. I just need to redo my work bench and get started looking at several radios I have acquired. I have also acquired the 3 books by Lou Franklin. Ready to be a cold weather shut in and hopefully progress through my stack of radios.

Tell me.... how long ago did you get the books from Lou?
I've tried four emails over the last three months to confirm that he is still taking orders and don't get an answer.

It took me almost 3 months to get the screwdriver book and the only reason I got it is because I paid with paypal and got them involved. It sure is a hassle working with Lou.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Nosaj,
If you noticed, were the funds taken out EARLY... like when you placed the order? Or LATER near the time that the order was shipped?
What I want to avoid is making a charge on there that "hangs around forever" and I never know if it will be taken out or not.
What I may do is put the money on a gift card, use that gift card for the purchase... then.... only one of two things will happen, 1) I will get the order at some point and all will be good, or 2) the order will be lost and I may or may not get the funds back.
I really hate that Lou has fallen on bad health times but would dearly love to have this title!!!!!
Thanks!
Bob

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
A while back I got a mess of 3 Russian tube 10-80 Meter amps (1KW type) and a Swan Mark 1 came with the deal as well. The Swan has spots for TWO 3-400Z but I am upgrading the whole amp to be like an AL-82 with two 3-500ZG tubes. So far I have got that huge HV transformer Amertron offers. Also on the way is the bifilar coil, new ameritron plate choke, 5V filament transformer, 90 volt bias/key transformer, and some other odd and ends, lastly the tubes should ship today.
On the russian amps all I have done is test and repair the power supplies, two worked perfect, one I had to replace the 16 diodes on the power supply board.

I also tried to order the books new from Lou tried several times. The PLL and Screwdriver books were purchased in a book lot on Ebay used but in usable, readable condition for a few dollars. The Tech troubleshooting book was located through a book store out of Austin, Tx like new condition but for $$$.
