Help finding radio parts

#399309

Post by iparodyall »

I picked up a radio from the flea market for a dollar or two and the ANL switch was really loose so i thought that could be an issue, but i don't think it is.

I took it home and plugged up a mic (several mics) and the only sound it would make is a screaming sound when i pressed the transmit button.

I didn't try a ext speaker to see if it was receiving but it was able to transmit some garbled static

TX and RX lights both light up and the needle swings like its hearing channels but the mic and radio both scream when i transmit (TX and RX light up when i transmit like its hearing my own transmission)

so i took it apart and the only issue i see is a ruined inductor

I cant find any schematics for this model, it has a speaker harness that screws separately on top like a higher end model but thats all i know.

I also have a cobra 18 LTD that is broken and i was wondering if i could use the cobra inductor to replace it?

The loose ANL switch shouldn't be a problem and most likely if you watch for another parts radio you will find one to eventually replace it. I think the problem with the radio is the mic is wired wrong, (the squealing when the PTT is keyed is a dead giveaway), once it's wired right it probably will have receive audio. Probably find the replacement slug for the Cobra too, but check why the board is burnt in the pic.
