Thinking about the RCI 2980WX for my new base radio.

THOUGHTS?

Likes, dislikes?

Suggestions?

RA's site says it does 50w after wackpack barefoot.

Does it need to be setup a special way to take an amp later?
Dew to short funds it will be barefoot for awhile. But will it need to bet setup differantly Barefoot vs. Amped?

anything else you want to add go ahead!

Is it just "standard" or did he have it worked on like from RA or someone?

I bought a 2995DX from GI Joe's... great radio! Folks there did a peak, tune, and mod, and did an excellent job!

Yea thats a nice radio but I cant afford that. Would be nice.

But I like the looks of the 2980wx Nice and clean "classic" look to it. Plus it has all the features you really need.
Its not as powerfull as the 2995

Radioactives website says it does 50Watts. Joes says 40.
Dosnt have an internal amp like the 2995 does.

How good will 40-50 watts talk? I got alot of things on my list including antenna. So barefoot it will be for awhile.
This current antenna (fiberglass) gives TVI on the TV in my computer room when I key up my current base (regular cb). So im conserned about TVI with this antenna and a new radio with more power.

I'll need help with this from the pro's-but you should know where I'm coming from...
My neighbor is a retired truck driver and a RCI fanatic! (and does some repair) I am also very interested in the 2980DX, but I'm told that a couple of models have an undesirable pc board in them and we're not sure which ones. The board I'm speaking about is a micro pc board which is state of the art! However if something fails on the board it's difficult to repair. Very easy to change out the board, but the board cost $200.00, which is almost 1/2 the cost of the radio, then throw some shipping on top of that! He suggested I go for a used 2980 (no WX) which doesn't have this board. He's elderly, and sometimes gets things mixed up, but means well. Can a pro out there clarify, and maybe break down the models (which ones are amped/not amped) as I am after one myself. He had a name for this new board but I can't remember.

Ive not heard about that. I dont care about the WX part or not. Cant cost that much more. . and I dont even know if you can get it without it?

Ive talked to two differant radio places RadioActive included to aske about this radio and that never came up.
Both said it was one of the best base radios there is on the current market.

That's good because I'm also looking at the 2980wx. The 2980 is out and the 2980wx is in from what I understand. It must be a different model that incorporates this new technology. As I stated earlier this guy does get a little mixed up and maybe spit out the wrong model number, but he is usually correct and his info is worth checking out. I was able to take a look at one of these small pc boards and they are incredibly small for whats on them.
