fiberglass -vs- aluminum for base CB
Looking for suggestion...recommendations... pros/cons, etc. on fiberglass and aluminum.
I want to buy an omnidirectional type antenna for my base CB. Just looking to talk in my area, not 1000 miles away. I'll have a Uniden 980 SSB mobile powered by a 12 amp DC power supply. I'll be mounting the antenna on my chimney.
This is just a couple that I saw

Not saying these are my only two choices of antenna, but just an example of a fiberglass and aluminum omnidirectional.
pros/cons of both?

Re: fiberglass -vs- aluminum for base CB
I am just the opposite, I have been using the same aluminum antenna (Avanti Sigma II) since 1972 (took it down and cleaned it up several times) with no problems. I did have a Sheakespeare Super BigStick (S-176 model) and it was fine but on dry days very noisy, fiberglass picks up static in the air and on rainy days the SWR would climb.

either of those 2 would be fine, check with the sponsors on this site, maybe shipping will be the deciding factor.

inexpensive route and have a pair of 102in whips laying around you can use them to make an L shaped dipole, 1 whip is vertical, one is horizontal. Works great. I used one of theses to attach the antennas to. [Please login or register to view this link] and one of theses [Please login or register to view this link]
Oddly enough, I've shot skip all around the U.S. with that crazy setup.

Would you happen to have a close up picture of these two connected? I'd like to try that.
