P/S amps peak on key then drop
Ok first my equipment..
pyramid ps-52kx 52 amp adjustable power supply set at 14.5 v
A palomar elite 250 say's auto side band
when I run my connex 3300hp rf switch on low everything works great. power supply reads its pulling about 20 amps on key and swings up with modulation to bout 22. with rf on high it swings to like 30 on key and drops with modulation. I left the connex on low, worked fine. now with my bearcat 980ssb its doing with amp on high and med but still swinging up on low. mic gain made no difference. bearcat was doing same thing with different power supply and texas star 350. He's got the connex now waiting to see how it acts on it

Re: P/S amps peak on key then drop
I never cared for the Pyramid brand PS's, they over-rate their output. First drop the voltage down to 13.8v, that is where most radio equipment runs, the 980 and amp will like you for it plus the PS will run at close to it's rating. Volting is a competition thing and the equipment is built for it.
The Connex has probably had quite a few fingers in it so I suggest an alignment to get it back in spec.
Last, it is best to run the radio on a separate PS then the radios, reason, when power is drawn off to run the amp, amperage drops as does voltage, this causes detuning, with the radio running on the same PS you are now detuning both.

too much amperage to run both the radio and amp off same power supply...
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Ok thanks fellas. A do have a astron 7 a I can run the radio on. That little 250 amp only pulls about 22a on high. Checked it before a shop and my buddy's 70a fancy custom box. My old ww2 25amp supply would run it on low at 12v but had no needles. Huh. I'll take it all up to tech after Turkey day I guess. I've added a lot lately

7A will run the 980 but don't think of running the Connex on it.
