Galaxy DX 959 Meter light flickering

Hi Everyone,
I just got a Galaxy DX 959 in a trade. It has the 2 switch mod and I`m sure it`s been peaked and tuned. It works great but when I talk on it the meter light flickers. Has anyone had this or know why the light blinks during modulation? I'm using a new 15 amp Trip-Lite power supply and a heavy duty power cord w/4 amp fuse. The Mic is a Turner +3b or Super sidekick. Any thoughts on this would put my mind at ease.

Is it an older model 959 or newer. If it is older and they "peaked" and tuned it or upgraded the finals it is going yo need a new voltage regulator. The old one used a less powerful one that when you did upgrades it couldn't supply enough power. I think the upgraded part number is sb827. Someone else might chime in and give a different part number or better part number. The newer models came with the sb827 installed. IIRC you also need to change another component but I haven't looked it up in awhile. DO a google search for upgrades or mods for power improvement on a 959

Thanks for the reply Gasser ,The radio is only 5 yrs old so I would think it`s a new model.I`ll check into the VR. That's the only trouble getting a used radio,you don`t know whats been done to it. 73`s Ed WR 224
