Well I got the relay today and tried it but it didn't work. I bought the same relay that you have pictured. I have a 470 cap from the wire where the mirror board would be because this radio doesn't have a mirror board then to a variable from that to #87 then #30 to the rear hole of J3 and 87A to the front hole of J3 #86 to bare lead of r138 and #85 to ground but it doesn't work at all

if you followed the lay out that Andy did it should work. you have to put the input on the trace since it does not have a mirror board. I do not pay any attention to the numbers. I check the pins of the relay to see what ones are the relay to activate it then you have 2 pins that when the radio is unkeyed one pin does nothing and the other pin lets the audio into the speaker for regular funtions. then when you key up the radio the other pin activates the talkback. I have no idea what you are doing wrong. that is a very simple mod to do.
when you key and unkey the radio does the relay click?

take some hot melt glue and stick the relay to the side of the case or some where it does not roll around inside the radio. you do not need to short some thing out. I know that in a radio with a small transformer in it I stick the relay to the top of it. makes it look nice and neat.

the relay mod is what I went to years ago when drivers wanted talkback because it sounded so clean. better than pulling a diode to get talkback.

just remember this mod for future installs so you can do it on others. I usually buy very small relays since the audio does not take much power to feed through the relay. the ones I use have small through the hole pins on it. so that helps to make a smaller fit in the radio.
