Frequency Drift in Galaxy Radios
Hi Everyone
As anyone who has a Galaxy radio knows ,they have to warn up before there on Freq. I was wondering if anyone has found out what the part or parts are that cause this. I have a Uniden 980SSB in my truck that is instant on and it cost a lot less than a DX 959. Also has anyone have a trick that they use to warm the radio up faster. I've been told that there are a couple things people do and I`d like too here about them. I even saw a picture where a guy had a heating pad on top of his DX 959 LOL. So if you have a tip or trick you use let me know.
Thanks Ed WR224

Hi Steve
I was getting bleed over from ch 22 all the way up on 38 lsb.A good friend and ham told me to turn off my ANL/BN and it cut the bleed over way back. My Galaxy is about 5 yrs.old it might help on the newer radios too.I`m close to Balto. City and sometime the Superbowl get`s really fired up.

Hi Stoneman
I know what you mean, but I`v heard tips like glueing a led bulb to the OCC crystal or putting bees wax around it. I`ve even been told to get a reptile heater and lay it on top of the radio.Just woundering if anyone has heard of anything. Ed WR224

Re: Frequency Drift in Galaxy Radios
Don't think an LED puts out any heat, it would need to be a regular "wheat bulb" (2, one on each side of the crystal) like in older radios and I would use shrink tube to hold it in place. You will need to unsolder the binding strap and after your done solder it back. This did work to a point but there was still some drift. Best thing would be to unlock the clarifier then have the radio aligned so the transmit/receive track to same.
Also seen a electronic crystal heater, made in he Ukraine, not sure if I want to order from there.
