Muddy audio

#402165

Post by Stingray »

Any suggestions and cleaning up the audio in a Mark three?
Even with a stock microphone and the internal audio adjustment turned down, the audio is still muddy. It is not clear like a bell like it should be. Do you know how when you hear someone and it sounds like their words are kind of running together?
Any suggestions on things to try would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I'm guessing freshening up the caps didn't help any. How are determining the audio is "muddy"? Is this receive audio or your transmit audio?

It’s on transmit. I haven’t change the caps yet. And people tell me it’s not clear or sounding I’ve heard people talking on this radio from my base station myself and I agree it’s not as clear as it should be . I guess I should change all the caps in the audio chain. I know the radio has been re-capped meaning, all the electrolytes but I will do the caps in the audio chain

How does the radio's receive audio sound? I am thinking the problem could be one of the AC filter caps is bad making it sound bad during transmit.

Receive is very good. I’ve only had it a few months. I don’t use it on side band and probably never will but I can try it.

I’ve tried different tubes in the audio chain as well. I will say this though, I have a bugle boy 12 a X7 in the audio chain and it sounds the best out of all the 12 a X7 tubes that I have.
