CB prices gone mad?
Has anyone noticed the prices for used radios and microphones surge in recent times?
I'm seeing some stupid money for average gear here in Australia at the moment.

There might be some increased demand due to some increase in folks doing some 'emergency planning?'
Maybe .... wouldn't surprise me if such was an influencing factor.

What if the "hokie-pokie" really is "...what it's all about!" ? ? ?

Na, nothing there for me. If I'm going to buy anything, it'd have to be pretty select. I'm pretty much tapped out anyway. With the exchange rate from AU to US and the expensive shipping plus 10 percent import tax, I should be putting money back into our own economy. I've been buying too much from you guys lately.Windwalker 1 wrote: August 7th, 2020, 6:50 am arcone check the CBRT sponsers maybe you will get a better price.

Yeah, but not that instant. Maybe with more people at home and not working. Maybe they clean out their garage and find that old radio and get all inspired and nostalgic. And they're probably sick of social media etc. can't get away from this covid-19 being plastered everywhere.Gunner357 wrote: August 7th, 2020, 8:24 amDidnt you guys just get put on lock down a few days ago do to Covid It may be why you may be correctarcone wrote: August 7th, 2020, 6:18 am Has anyone noticed the prices for used radios and microphones surge in recent times?

Preppers. In Australia? I've seen some wacko protesters on TV lately getting arrested because they're convinced that 5G has something to do with it.BikePacker wrote: August 7th, 2020, 8:21 am There might be some increased demand due to some increase in folks doing some 'emergency planning?'

Re: CB prices gone mad?
Around Tax refund time here people will ask wild prices for old radios thinking someone just got their tax refund and it's burning a hole in their pocket...And allot of times guys get what they are asking for the stuff...
I seen a Cobra 2000 GTL that "said" it was NOS/NIB, go for $1900+ back when Tax returns were starting to come out...
Nothing wrong with asking for high prices on stuff...just have to wait for the right buyer to come along...

I mean people are paying high prices and bidding items up.jessejamesdallas wrote: August 7th, 2020, 7:36 pm Around Tax refund time here people will ask wild prices for old radios thinking someone just got their tax refund and it's burning a hole in their pocket...And allot of times guys get what they are asking for the stuff...

Yeah some do have some extra money in their sky rocket, the government has released a couple of economic stimulus packages and job keeper payments etc because of covid. So we've got some people at home with nothing to do (some in lock down, only my state) and a bit of extra cash. Yeah that makes sense with the cycle on the up.

Re: CB prices gone mad?
I agree with everyone, prices are crazy, ham equipment especially, these seller's want almost as much as and sometimes more than purchasing new. If it is something you want, it never hurts to email the person and make a reasonable offer, worse that could happen, they say "no".
BTW JJD, I know the guy you referred to. He had a shop down by DC and has some NOS/NIB stuff, but they have been on "that auction site" for 10+ years now and probably will be 10+ years from now.

Yeah, some of that stuff stays on there a while, then he'll take it down and a few months later relist it...just have to wait for the right person to come along with a pocket full of stupid money just waiting to let it go.MDYoungblood wrote: August 8th, 2020, 7:08 am I agree with everyone, prices are crazy, ham equipment especially, these seller's want almost as much as and sometimes more than purchasing new. Re: CB prices gone mad?
However, there are still deals out there...Just the other day on the auction site someone had a Turner 350D Mic for sale...NOS/NIB and was asking $89 + shipping...Had a button "or make offer", so I did...Offered up $50 and they took it!
The Turner 350D is the predecessor to the Road King 56...Looks just like a RK-56 but has a thicker cord, and the plastic is much thicker and heavier...
Heck you can't even hardly find a RK 56 for 50 bucks, and this one is the Real McCoy!

Re: CB prices gone mad?
Some of these old mics are worth grabbing. I've been buying some high impedance mics lately like ceramics. They often come with a hard to find plug too, they're asking silly money for certain plugs. I let a nice Johnson/Turner go the other day, should have put a bid in.jessejamesdallas wrote: August 8th, 2020, 12:57 pm However, there are still deals out there...Just the other day on the auction site someone had a Turner 350D Mic for sale...NOS/NIB and was asking $89 + shipping...Had a button "or make offer", so I did...Offered up $50 and they took it!

The problem here in Australia is there's a shortage on mics like Turner Plus Threes and the like.

The person I bought this one from also has the High Impedance version "NIB" for sale, and will take $50 US for it...It's the Turner 350C ceramic...It's listed at $89, but if you make a offer, they will take 50... on the auction site that starts with the letter "e"...arcone wrote: August 8th, 2020, 9:29 pmSome of these old mics are worth grabbing. Re: CB prices gone mad?
good thing i have piles of the stuff ,, my lifelong collection started back in the early 70's
price of tea has gone up too, but i feel for ya. new or newer stuff has definitely gone up in price.
quality is hard to find and it names its own price.
be happy as a pig in a poke when you find a good deal.

Re: CB prices gone mad?
Na, the shipping is the killer. And thanks to a major whinging retailer down here by the name of Jerry Harvey, we now pay an extra on GST. Don't get me wrong, I recently bought a Golden Eagle, it cost me over $1100 landed, so I ain't no tight **Censored**. If only we got parity again. Not wishing anything bad on you guys, but we have lacked buying power for some time. We'll have to wait and see who comes out of this the better.jessejamesdallas wrote: August 9th, 2020, 6:57 amThe person I bought this one from also has the High Impedance version "NIB" for sale, and will take $50 US for it...It's the Turner 350C ceramic...It's listed at $89, but if you make a offer, they will take 50... on the auction site that starts with the letter "e"...arcone wrote: August 8th, 2020, 9:29 pmSome of these old mics are worth grabbing. You know what I need is a good kick up the **Censored**. Second to that is a Golden Eagle Mk3 One Eighty (I'm serious). Third is a new liver.443 Arizona wrote: August 9th, 2020, 7:46 am good thing i have piles of the stuff ,, my lifelong collection started back in the early 70's
