Amp Fan
Never had a Amp before, and want to install a fan of a RM KL-350 Amp. Should the fan blow the air on the amp, or away from the amp?
Re: Amp Fan
Good question. I have my fan blowing the air on the amp, which is the KL-503.

Re: Amp Fan
My Magnaforce 350 Draws air across and out the top. You guys have external heat sinks I would blow air across the sinks

Re: Amp Fan
How did you guys wire in your fan? On a switch or hardwired to amp? This one is lighted and haven't done anything with it yet. Still need to get this little RM Italy 203P set up. Thanks

Re: Amp Fan
I have mine wired to a switch mounted in a 4 1/4'' x 3 1/4'' box. Also have a switch for lights i installed in a SWR meter, plus switches for channel expansion and a few other things.cecil wrote: August 24th, 2020, 3:54 pm How did you guys wire in your fan? Re: Amp Fan
Nice! I've got to mount the fan to the amp too, maybe zip ties, but would like to have something a little neater.Beachbum24 wrote: August 24th, 2020, 4:08 pmI have mine wired to a switch mounted in a 4 1/4'' x 3 1/4'' box. Re: Amp Fan
You could use some clear silicone on the corners of the fan, mount it to the top of your amp. Silicone will prevent any vibration the fan may cause.

Re: Amp Fan
Those little amps really don't need a fan, unless you're planning on playing Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album over the air...
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Re: Amp Fan
The way to tell if you need a fan is to touch the heatsink after a QSO, if its too hot to keep finger on it then you need a fan. Computer fans are pretty cheap, or if you have a dead computer around, use the one in it. They make little rubber feet bout a 1\2" tall to keep it high enough to get some air flow over the heatsink.

Re: Amp Fan
I like that the heat sink is on the upper side of the amp. Heat rises. You see amps out there and even radios with heat sinks mounted on the bottom.MDYoungblood wrote: August 25th, 2020, 10:58 am The way to tell if you need a fan is to touch the heatsink after a QSO, if its too hot to keep finger on it then you need a fan. I like the rubber feet idea. I could easily cobble something together. Much better than zip ties.
