What is the story on these Power supplies? they are so cheap and I paid 200 00 something 10 years ago for a Tripp-Lite power supply and it weighs a ton......

The old power supplies are "linear" power supplies. MegaWatts are a newer "switch mode" design. This allows them to be much lighter and cheaper for a given power output. However, as part of the power supply requires the use of a high frequency square wave (typically near 100 KHz), for radio use they require a lot of filtering or they will add a ton of noise.

Electrically, the world today is very noisy with QRN compared to 20 to 30 years ago, and a good chunk of that noise comes from the wide use of switch mode power supplies with a lack of proper filtering for everything from charging phones to TV's to pretty much anything else that requires power.

The MegaWatts are fine to use as they are properly filtered.

They work well. I have the 1200W version. It’s pretty clean. I do hear a little noise in receive though. But that’s hooked up to a dummy load, no antenna. If I turn the filters on on radio, it cleans it right up.
