#404892

Post by Sparky1 »

I have a turner +3 desktop mic and i get no audio to radio. It will key the radio but no audio. checked mic cable and plug connector, re flowed solder joints, cleaned contact and volume control, checked battery. when i key up all i get is a crackling sound and that will change in intensity when i rotate the volume control. Any thoughts?

It probably is the microphone element gone bad. You could swap it out with any old handheld mic or even a microphone element out of a ids toy. If that fixes it you can get a electret mic kit off eBay to replace it permanently.

If it's not the element, take the Mic connector apart and check for a loose wire...If this is a New Mic (new to you) double check the mic wiring...just because it's a 4 pin Mic, doesn't mean it's wired right for your radio.

Sparky1,Hello,i didn't read all the previous ideas.I would start by swapping out the Turner+3 with another mic that you know for sure is working correctly and put the one you are having trouble with on the radio you got the second mic off. That will tell you if you have a mic/Radio problem.Did you say what radio you have the non working +3 on? Regards,warlock35po.

Using the +3 on a galaxy dx-2517. Other mics work on this radio. The +3 does not work on other radios.

Here is the spec sheet that came with them originally,

First thing like JJD said, make sure it's wired right for the radio, you also have to look at the wiring at the PTT switch.
Scratchy sounds is a sign the contacts are dirty, both the switch and the potentiometer. A good contact cleaner like DeoxIT D5 should be used there. Spray sparingly both and work them to clean up the contacts. I am still thinking it is the element.
