KL-503 Amp.
I have a RM Italy KL 503 Mobil Linier Amplifier and having problems with it.
I have a Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB, and a DOSY TC3001-P Power SWR, Meter Watt, Modulation Meter. I also have a Mega Watt S-400-12 power supply just to run the Amp.
With Amp in place I get SWR readings of channel 1 ( dead key ) On channel 20 ( dead key ), on channel 40 I get ( 1.3 ).
The connections are Radio to Amp., Amp to SWR/Power meter, SWR/Power meter to Antenna.
Here is my problem. I'm mostly on Channel 38 LSB. When I have the Amp turned on I get comments that I'm breaking up, only get every other word. If I switch to AM on the same channel with the Amp on all is well. I've tried this on several Lower and Upper SSB all the same breaking up. On AM with Amp on no problems?
This is my first Amp with all new equipment. Radio, power supply for radio, DOSY meters, Mega Watt S-400-12 power supply for Amp., Anton 99 Antenna, new to me D-104 power mike.
Has anyone ever had this problem?

It sounds like an overdriving problem but that shouldn't be the case with the 980. I would try using the stock mic on SSB to see if that could be causing this. Another thing, since you know the SWR is good remove the meter and extra jumpers, see if the changes things. Check the voltage of the amp's PS, those little amps are good at 13.8V, don't let it go higher. Last thing, how is the radio on SSB without the amp on?

If I don't use the Amp on SSB all is fine.

Does this problem happen with the stock microphone, power mic turned down?

I have the same setup as you do (except I have a galaxy dx-2517) and had the same problem. I changed to the stock mic and the problem went away on ssb.

I returned the Amp. and they sent me a new one. Purchased a Mega Watt S-700-12, and the problem is gone. Even after receiving the new amp the problem was still there. A friend of mine who is a ham operator suggested to me to get a bigger power supply, and that fixed the problem.

Hmm, I would have thought the S-400-12 PS was big enough for that amp but I am wrong, glad you got it straightened out.
