I love tube but anything with tubes (Radios )included are so pricey around here. When i bought my mark iv i also picked up a tube tester. Now i have a sonar also.
Keep smiling ...It makes people wonder what your up too !
I also use both...Palomar 300A, Kicker 500, then on the pill side, Davemades, XForce, Hopper Built, Fatboy, Joker, Texas Stars, Messenger, several others, but stay away from the RM Italy stuff...
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Tubes are just about extinct, though. I recently read that the BBC longwave station Radio 4 on 198 KHZ just replaced their very last tubes in their transmitter, and there are absolutely no more to be found. Once they go, the station will likely be off the air forever unless they build a solid state longwave transmitter. Luckily there are still a lot of tubes available out there but once they're gone, they're gone.
For low power local talking I use biased transistor drivers well within specs. But when I want to put a little fire in the wire I kick on the steel. Ya, tubes are awesome. To me they seem to be alive when they are doing their thing. I tend to be a bit of an odd fella so take that for whatever it's worth lol

Hey there 295 !
I still have my Tram D201 to get fixed, maybe next month. Also still have the D&A Raider to get checked out and tuned proper. Love tubes, just seem to have problems blowing things up. ;-(
Catch ya soon and 73,

I know nothing about tubes or building amps, thats why I'm asking.....
so tubes arent used because they are too expensive?
does anyone still build amps with tubes?
