I only know a little from reading and that makes me dangerous. I have a TRC241 hand held model from 2006 that's been used very little. The rechargable battery pack is kaput after sitting 10 years on the shelf so I've been using energizer rechargables instead that uses a different case to power it. I bought a Roadpro RP 707 36" mag mount antennae to use w/it. Had to use a pl259 to bnc adapter to hook it up. Anyways this thing is all over the map on readings. Batt level swings from 5 bars to 2 when transmitting then settles on 3 when done. Transmit same issue with the bar indicator. Shoul I just forget about it and get a new hand held? This is rated at 5wt instead of 4wt which is nice. Any opinions on the new President Randy hand held, rated too at 5watts? I like hand held units to remove from the car so it's npt stolen and a window busted out. My budget is under $200 as this is just for fun to me.

Hello OldSoul,
Welcome to the forum, you should make a post here, [Please login or register to view this link] , then your post count will start and it also lets you see more of the forum, the higher to count gets the more privileges. I had a couple old 40 channel HT's (walkie talkie's) but nothing beats a base or mobile unit made into a base. I think you could manage that on your budget.
