It won't happen while I'm alive, it takes the FCC 10 years to "type accept" a radio now, by the time development and design is done, I'll be long gone.
BTW, we have plenty of FM radios in the states now, just not legal.

They might as well allow FM. It's a better mode for short range comms than AM. I just don't know what bandwidth of FM they're going to allow, my guess is they'll have to limit it to less than 10 Khz to fit on the standard channels.
