1977-1978 SSB Assigned call numbers

After many many years....
I finally got a copy of my old QSL card from the 70's. It sure brings back memories, that's for sure!

Question for any of the "old timers" out there:
We used to read the S9 CB radio magazine every month back then. This was when 23 channels was morphing into 40 and they really weren't sure which channels were going to be SSB channels. At that time, there was much discussion on moving forward with SSB assigned call numbers. The oldest and most well known group at the time was SSB Network and they assigned numbers like SSB-1234. Prior to establishing channels 36-40 as SSB channels, there was another organization that came to the forefront of assigning SSB numbers. S9 articles suggested that the SSB Network was losing ground as the true authority of sideband protocols and decorum and the more world wide group was looking to be the authority on SSB and would have a bigger voice with the FCC in determining their SSB protocols. Anyways.....

Does anybody remember the name of the other group? was it Tango something? They assigned numbers like TXC-1234.

This is driving me crazy the past few days. Even tried going through all the S9's I found on line but the years of 1978-1980 are missing.

I have searched for Tango X ray Charlie SSB or CB group.... found nothing

Wow, I actually had a subscription to S9 Magazine but don’t remember their SSB club, I got my numbers through a club in Connecticut in the early 70’s. My call then was 7W321B .

Yes I remember them, like said I had subscriptions. There are a few out in my garage here. Both of those are good sites and they have plans for homemade antennas, another thing I forgot.

I was a member of many SSB clubs back in the early 80's

SBI - SideBandersInternational
WW - World Wide radio group
Universal- Radio group
BR - Blue Ridge Radio club
Old Codger group

Just to name a few. There were at least half dozen more that I've forgotten about.

That's funny how they thought the SSB network was losing ground. They were still around in the early 90's when I sent off for call numbers from them. They were offering low numbers but which also included a letter, mine was SSB-87G. I can't seem to find the certificate anywhere but I'm sure it's hidden in a box of papers somewhere. I didn't use that designation much, because when I fell in with a local group I chose to use their numbers of TNT1450.

The other group I've never heard of. But I'm guessing there were a lot of "worldwide" groups which came & went and none had any more influence with the FCC than any of the others.

In Chicago, where I was operating 40+ years ago, there was the Chicago Area W Group (call signs like "Whiskey 1234") and International Little Rascals (call signs like "ILR 1234". I still have my old numbers...
