3" ground plain kit for mobile antennas
Do these little 6 dollar units actually work. Correct me if I'm wrong but these are supposed to bring the curve of the signal closer to the earth. There in widening it? Flatter?

some do include them. i bought to 20m antenna's years ago made by some ham in japan and both had them. the swr jumped .1 with out them. i run them on my wilson silver load. not much difference though. just wish they were about 12 inches or longer o see a real notice.

In a word(or two). SNAKE OIL! In order for a ground plane to work it needs to be at least 1/4 wave length long @ the frequency of operation.
468 divide by frequency in Mhz equals half wavelength. Divide that by 2 for 1/4 wave.
therefore a quarter wave for 27 Mhz is a little over8 1/2 ft.
So what is 6" gonna do??????

I forgot to add, that if its on your vehicle, the vehicle body IS the ground plane. All ( most I should say) Mobile antennas for CB are based on a quarter wave antenna. You need a half wave of antenna for it to work.(the minimum electrical size for an antenna). The body of the vehicle being the other half.

If you have allot of cat's or squirrels hanging around your yard...I suggest buying about a dozen of these things! They make great throwing star's! And after a while, you'll be able to pick-off a squirrel @ 50' running across the yard!
As for as CB use go's.....Snake-Oil is right!

It is called a ground plane but isn't on the ground side. That isn't the side of the antenna I want grounded. as for a counterpoise Like was said the length is wrong. There are ones with about 12" radials but is still too short and on the wrong side of the system.
