Texas Star 1600 Setup
Post by Deleted User 30222 »
Just have a few basic questions. First, if I have a 1500 watt dipole antenna. Will it handle the 900 watts my DX1600 will send to it? I'll only be feeding the DX1600 60 watts in for the 900 out. I figure that's less than 2/3 of it's rating of the antenna. Now the other is a little more complicated. The power source for the DX1600.
This is my breaker box. The top left is a dual 100 amp, and all the individuals add up to 200. Will this handle the 1600? We don't use a lot of power here. During the day, my PC and 1 tv is on, maybe 2. So I'm thinking 2 options. First, megawatt power supplies. I have 2 of the S-350s which is 60 amps, if I grab 3 more that will give me 150 amps. Or the directions for the 1600 and just buy a deep cycle battery and a charger. And I replace my RG8 with new RG213 coax. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Deep cycle batteries will also give you some talk time when the power goes out if your radio will also work. I just dont feel that a 14 gauge wire dipole mounted in the attic will work vey good.

Most batteries now a days are sealed and do not have caps to open to fill with water. So you will not get vapors from them. They are very dangerous if you hook them up backwards. Most wind turbine systems use batteries to store the electricity produced. Sometimes many many large batteries. Way bigger than a deep cycle marine battery so I think it is a safe deal to use batteries.

That power supply will do it but it will get hot. I always try to get double what could be needed so the supply will coast and easily make enough juice.
