Uniden Washington and a Hex Beam Contact

Had a fun contact today with my vintage Uniden Washington running 12 watts into a Hex Beam with a MFJ tuner on channel 37 LSB. I just talked to Corpus Christi, Texas from Delaware. The channel was quiet around sunset and I chatted a few rounds. It's amazing, with the "jammers"and everyone stepping on each other on channel 38 and dropping down to channel 37 where it is nice and quiet where you can have decent QSO with someone. It's great to still use a vintage radio to talk skip. Maybe it's the challenge that's appealing with all the modern day high powered radios and amplifiers that makes it worth it.
