General Lee ?
I hear just about everybody say good things about the transmit part of the radio but there is not much said about the receive side ?
I've talked to a few people that say they sold theirs due to the poor receive and static noise. They compared the receive to their other radios on the same antenna, Galaxy's, Magnum's and Strykers and said the receive was much better than the General..
What is your opinion of this and have you compared it to other radios ?

Galaxy and General Lees are made in the same plant, side by side,,,if the radio isn't aligned it won't recieve as well as one that has been aligned, also some guys adjust the meter , so you think you are recieving better that you really are, I have Galaxy, Styker, and general Lee on my bench, all work well, I like the General and Styker better than the galaxy line of radios,,,,,but I work on them and see the difference,,,,General Lee is a good radio, probably not the best,,,but thats what I run, and I have many to choose from, Cobra 200GTL, Galaxy 66 SWP, General Lee, Styker 440, Magnum 3, Northpoint(in my truck), ect

northpoint's rock
I have a SuperWackPacked General Lee, with what RA calls SuperReceive. It receives way better than a Ranger RCI 2950DX that I had, that went through 4 different technicians.
It also out-receives a Cobra 25, a Galaxy Sirius, and a Galaxy DX73 that I've used.
I have the ability to compare repeating daily tests on receive, because I drive the same route to work, through trees, hills, and interstate, and I am able to compare radio performance at similar distances, and changing conditions, on a daily basis, with both mobiles and base stations.
Never, have I seen a situation that any other radio could outperform this SWP General Lee with SuperReceive.

Like I said in another thread. (but couldn't resist posting here too! :D )
I have both the General Lee, the Stryker, A Uniden 78, and the Galaxy 93t, and 95t.
Of all my radios, I have to say, the all around best sounding, and receiving radio, is my Stryker. It by far, has the best Talk-Back feature. Great ear's. Lots of swing. And is cool just to look at!
The Galaxy 93t however, has a few more features than the Stryker, like SSB and a Freq. counter, and a nice echo. And seems to be less noisy than the Stryker, But then again, it's also in a different veichcle, that is probably better grounded...
The Uniden 78 has a great receive, but lacks the swing of the others. The Galaxy 95t is OK..But I don't like the pre-set echo. Also, IMO is over priced. If your planning on running a amp with either the 93t or the 95t, I would recommend the 93t over the 95t...
The General Lee, is a loud sounding radio. And is no slouch by any means, But the Stryker has everything the General does, and more, for about the same price...

No. (not yet anyway) Only person I could find that had a Stryker when I orderd mine, was Rolling Radio, who did a good job on tuning it.
I never have herd of anyone that "didnt" like RadioActive's radios. Or the way he tunes them. But depending on whos Forum your veiwing, all the Forums tend to cater to who ever is the "Radio Gu-Ru" for that Forum...
And all claim their tune-up's are the best! Not sure on what the difference's are, but If you visit other sites, and people are always down gradeing a certin person, then maybe it would be a good idea to avoid that shop...
That being said, and like I said before, I go on lots of Forums, and never seen any negitives on RadioActive's work or tune-up's...

It appears the majority in this thread seem to like their General Lee's receive.. I tried to get up with a guy I know that is running an old and a new version of the same radio and get his opinion on comparing the 2 of them..
Opinions on which is better or are they the same for those that have or had both the new and old versions of the General Lee ?

jessejamesdallas,
Thanks for the info.
GOTA Go,
I am also very impressed with the RX on the SWP G-Lee. On weak transmissions, I can just about hear the wind blowing the signal around. Having to turn the RX gain down a bit on days that are noisy is normal. Once in a while, on quiet days, I can crank it all the way up! I've actually been able to "out-hear" a small base station with my mobile. He doesn't have the biggest setup, but I'll take braggin' rights where I can.
EC 174,
The new and old version of General Lee that you're mentioning. Is that the SWP and non-SWP versions?
Thanks for the info.
