maybe a new set up in the works
maybe a new set up in the works
i'm not 100% sure what or how i want to do it so i'll ask for advise/opinions.
here is a list of things i would like to accomplish with new set-up
1) shut down a galaxy 95(i think that what he has) and a general lee.
2) price range of roughly 300-400
3) love the way the galaxy radios perform
here are my thoughts.
sell, my galaxy 55, and 33 to help with funding
buy a galaxy 66 and a davemade 1x2. i like the big meter on the 55 and 66 models., maybe just buy a DM1x2 for my 55(but i don't really like my 55 that much) i had echo installed on my 55, and a peak and tune, but i lent it to friend for awhile to use, and didn't really like the way it sounded when he talked on it. the echo sounded funny to me. he used an older red devil mic where i use an rk56. i guess i might be able to send the 55 out to radioactive, and have it totaly reworked, to work with an amp.
some food for thought. some of the guys at work have the stryker radios, but i don't care for the lay out of the knobs(they are tight kinda of crammed on the front of the radio). i'm not really a fan of the general lee radios either as a couple guys at work have had them, and didn't have much luck with them. like i said i'm kind of partial to the galaxay radio. the big meter isn't a nessacery, but i kind of like them.
i will shut up now, and wait for advise, and opinions

I with phaze on the 99V , I have went through a bunch of radio's trying to find the one I thought was the best for my application ....I am a galaxy person myself , however there are alot of nice radios out there , but I like the audio that comes out of a galaxy ......
I have went through many radio's looking for the right one and I always end up with a galaxy 99V .
I would rank the top 3 galaxy's I have owned as
1. Galaxy 99V
2. Galaxy 45
3. Galaxy 93

Wise fellow you are...
here is a list of things i would like to accomplish with new set-up

You'll need 200+ watts, heavy audio, and a good antenna system.
2) price range of roughly 300-400
Think of final price after you sell some of your existing equipment to finance this endeavor
3) love the way the galaxy radios perform
here are my thoughts.

Good start
buy a galaxy 66
The galaxy 66 is weak on upward swing. If you want a 66, research an amp that will give max output with the "low powered" Galaxy 66.
and a davemade 1x2.
Davemade is said to be the best, but if you stay with the Galaxy 66, I believe you will be short of fully driving the DM 1X2. There are some amps that are driven near 100% with a low powered radio. If you want to stay with the Galaxy 66, consider one of those.
i like the big meter on the 55 and 66 models., maybe just buy a DM1x2 for my 55(but i don't really like my 55 that much)
Dump it, get a radio that smiles back at you. Smiling radios are contageous.
i had echo installed on my 55, and a peak and tune, but i lent it to friend for awhile to use, and didn't really like the way it sounded when he talked on it. the echo sounded funny to me. he used an older red devil mic where i use an rk56.
Keep your RK 56, and let him keep his Red / Road Devil.
i guess i might be able to send the 55 out to radioactive, and have it totaly reworked, to work with an amp.
He sometimes does not take outside radios. Unless you can find an amp that will be happy with low swing. Keep thinking about radios that get swing watts up to 35-45w.

My SWP General Lee kinda dominates around here. It's pushing the FATBOY 1x2 very well (300-500 watts). Theirs must not have been SuperWackPacked. Granted, the General Lee can be short on features for some. If I would not have added the variable talkback option to mine, and the cool faceplate from MTNDEWNUT sales, I would be less happy with it.
like i said i'm kind of partial to the galaxay radio. the big meter isn't a nessacery, but i kind of like them.
The big meter is part of the radio smiling back at you. Don't forget to end up with variable talkback.
Have you considered the Galaxy 45MP?

The Galaxy 45MP is a cool radio. This is a AM/FM chassis, with all the fixings! The dual echo board gets your audio to sound just the way you like it. Talkback so you can hear that awesome echo works great. The 2 Big Finals get this radio PUMPING BIG WATTS, after it gets SuperWackPacked. A good pick for the Big Truck, Base Station, or running with or without a amp. Galaxy radios are OK on SSB, but the best style chassis for BIG am audio. That's what the 45 MP is a Big AM chassis. If you do run a amp, try a amp that likes a low dead key. Why? This radio will make the box swing loud and proud! There are a few things we don't like about this one, but its all in all a good all round radio.
Add a DaveMade 1X2 to this sucker and those guys at work will wimper and beg for mercy
It oughta talk 300-450 watts, and whistle 500+
What are you doing for an antenna?
Hmmm, I see a SWP General Lee with Variable Talkback in there.konvoy76 wrote:antenna will more than likely be the ever so popular wilson 2000 maybe step up to the 5000.
radio features i can live with out.
usb/lsb(i don't understan these channels anyway)
roger beep
+10 switch
features i would like
frequency counter
large meter
least amount of knobs(i like the toggle rf gain)
Wilson 5000? That expense puts you close to a Predator 10K.

I would recomend a 10K for sure if your going to spend the money on a will 5K. Just step up its worth it.
Then I really recomend DaveMade 1x2 as thats what i run and love it.
I alos have the general super wacked and its great swing into that amp. Very recomendable.
Check it out you would be pleased with that setup
Galaxy's are also great i just dont have much experince with them. They sure sound good though also
