On a barefoot 40 watt radio...audible difference in Deadkey?
On a barefoot 40 watt radio...audible difference in Deadkey?
Just wondering,
Would there be an audible difference between 3 watt deadkey and 6 watt deadkey on a barefoot SWP General Lee?

No, there won't be any difference.. With some amps it is possible to have a DK too low and when you modulate the 1st part of your modulation will be distorted until it reaches about the midway point of the swing.. DK 1 watt and swinging 1,000 might cause a problem but DK 1 watt and swinging 40 is fine..

If you had a 3W carrier, you would need a 12W carrier to make a 1 pound difference.
1 singing 40 is going to be really overmodulated if you don't be careful. Of course, if you set it for about 100% mod with a 1 watt dead key, you'd never see 40W PEP anyway. If you drop your deadkey, youre going to have to reduce your mic gain accordingly, unless you want to sound overmodulated and distorted. When you have 100% modulation, you have fully modualted your signal. Any more is distortion.

Thanks guys,
I think I'll be sending my General Lee to Mr. RadioActive for high deadkey change.
Right now Low does 1.5 watts and High does 6 watts DK. The 1.5 watt deadkey is what's recommended for Davemade. I want to keep the 1.5 watt in case I ever get a DaveMade, so I think I'll get the high changed from 6 watts to 3 watts.
I have had to cut the mic gain back, because some people "close in" have been complaining of overmodulatied "fuzzy" sound, with mic gain turned up high. But, some people say is sounds perfect and clear, turned all the way up, even close in.
I wonder if I'm short of best performance with the mic gain turned down with this new FATBOY 1x2?

I cant honestly say because I can't audibly hear you, but it only makes sense that you have to lower your mic gain when you lower the carrier. You'll find that some people actually think the fuzzy distorted sound is actually louder. It isn't. If the amp requires a 1.5W key, the run it there, and adjust your audio where it's loud, clear, and doesn't have the "fuzzy" sound. I usually try to run about 90-100% audio.
