Newbie with peak and tune question
I just had my radio tuned up.The invoice I got back with the radio stated 26watts PEP?What exactly does that mean. Thanks alot...
Re: Newbie with peak and tune question
PEP, if I remember correctly is "Peak Envelope Power" which is a fairly liberal measurement of RF (radio frequency) power in watts. It is what most people refer to when talking about how much power your radio is putting out.Bones wrote:I just had my radio tuned up.The invoice I got back with the radio stated 26watts PEP?What exactly does that mean. Thanks alot...
If someone asks how much power your radio is doing, the answer would be 26 watts.
If someone asks what the DK (deadkey) is. That's different. That's the RF power in watts, that the radio puts out with the microphone button pushed, without talking into it. The DK is often something around 3-5 watts. If you don't have a watt meter, the shop that did the P&T for you should be able to tell you what they set the DK to.
The DK is important to know if you plan to do an amplifier.
