I've looked high and low for a new Midland 79-290. Anyone know where I can find one for sale?

Thanks!

Thanks BigBopper. I called and left a message for Al. His web site says the 79-290 is unavailable, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Anyone else?

I don't know if they still make them. I read they have terrible adjacent channel rejection. The sad thing is, this Midland was where CBs were headed as far as technologies. If was microprocessor control, with a digital faceplate, memories, and so forth. Unfortunately, the CB craze died, and so did most manufacturers. Most of the radios today, like Galaxy, Cobras, Unidens, are basically late 1970's to early 1980's technology. It's to bad this Midland, didn't have the guts of a Uniden Grant XL. They you make a great combination.

79-290 midlands have dual 1969 finals in them, easy to mod, 240 channels, most be able to solder small jumpers, I mean small, adjacent channel rejection is about the same as the Cobra 200GTL or 150GTL, isn't the best, removable face is nice except, it has a plastic clip that holds it in, once you break it your screwed, kind of a neat radio, but needed some improvements,

Techs nightmare to work on, bulbs burn out fast on the display, I have had a couple, and sold them, neat looking radio,

Okay BigBopper, I finally found a new 79-290. Now where should I send it to get tuned, or what would you recommend to make it better, if anything?

Thanks!

Ted
