RCI 2980WX Problems?

#49565

Post by BigBubbaBD »

Has anyone heard if RCI has put out a bad batch of these things?

RCI 2980WX ? ? ? ? ?

Reason i ask is (not naming any names here) but I got one from a well known and well advertised shop on these forums. It worked great for a few days then got to where it would not turn on.
Sent it back to be fixed. Got it back (fixed from RCI) and it only dead keyed .3 watts and swung 18... Suppose to DK about 8wats and swing 45.
Sent it back got my money back, chalked it up as a bad apple you know no hard fealings because there was none.
Guys says he cant get anymore untill after christmas because of a back order.

Ok Get this other guy (very well known onf the forums as well) ... Sure no problem, hate you had problems but you want have them with me.
Ok GREAT send it out.

I get it in today move my current radio out of the way plug the new 2980wx in place of it and 0 i mean DEAD AIR recieve.
All 40 channels all how every many freq. pools there are, the signal meter does not even BUDGE.
double check all the radio settings, RF gain, squelch etc.. NOTHING

I mean whats the deal? 2 shopps (well known for there outstanding quality) so I dont see it being the shopps fault (other than if it did not work before it went out)...

Just does not make any sence to me.

BTW.. unplugged the coax out and put it back in the other radio sitting right there plugged into the same wall socket and heard plenty of conversation.

Yes I realize that. Actually it was set back to stock before it was sent to rci.
But after it was suppose to be retuned and converted (whitch it was converted still for 11meter.
But it only dead keyed .3 of a watt on low and 2 watts on high Swinging to just 18watts.

Just sounds like somethign internally wrong to me ya know?

Yea thats what i was saying. It was retuned because it had 11 meter and I was told it was retuned.

But before it died the first go round it would DK 2 on low and just a little over 8 on high and swing 45 easy

I dont know man.

Maby the Delivery guy just has it out for me or something.

I just cant understand how/why me ya know?

I mean its not like im doing ANYTHING at all to damage these things. Taking it out of the box and putting it inline where my current radio is at. Antenna is 1.2 swr's (shoot that doesnt even matter because i never even keyed this latest radio)

But like I said no hard feelings at all. Cant be the techs because those odds are just not good enough.. i just dont understand it.

Boxed up going out tomorrow. Hopefully when it returns it will be 100%

Does that particular radio have Service Mount Technology? The dreaded three words........ ???? I'm considering buying a new one, but a close friend/RCI Enthusiast told me to stay away from any RCI radio with the Service Mount Technology. Lots of cold solder joints etc.

I have no idea. Never even heard of that before to tell you the truth.

But I got a new 2980WX in today for the last one that was DOA. Seems to be working just fine.

I hope and feel that I want have any more problems.
