How do you start a conversation?
I just got a radio put in my truck and am wondering how to use it properly. I hate the fact that anybody who hears me is right away going to know I'm a rookie but I've got no choice. I was wondering if there is a protocol about initiating a conversation?
also something i would like to say about conversations on the radio. of course we are all guilty of it at some point but if you do spark a conversation with someone and will be chatting for a while if your on a public channel (for instance channel 19) i would ask and also a lot of other truck drivers ask to take the conversation to another channel. nothing more aggrevating then trying to get some local info or a bear report and the other end is getting walked on.

Don't worry about sounding like a newb. Everyone has at first. But that's how you learn.
Best advice I can give is to be non-vulgar, courteous, and more or less polite to other operators. Remember, don't say anything that you wouldn't say in front of your mother or little kids or anything.......... you never know who is going to be within earshot of you somewhere. Living close to I-80, I wish a lot of the drivers would try to remember that the CB radio isn't their own private line.........
Just treat others like you would like to be treated and I don't think you'll have a problem. If you don't like something, then turn the channel knob and find something you do!
Good Luck!
