hook up some power
hook up some power
Hey guys, i'm a newbie to the boards...i have a galaxy dx949 with dual finals that i would love to have looked at to see if it is doing what the people i bought it from told me it would...i was told it would push 40 watts on the high side...i have also come into a twister 350 watt amplifier that i want to put in...my swr is at 1 or better and i can talk 20+ miles on the stock radio, but when hunting sometimes it is nice to be able to have that extra power to talk to people...i was wondering if any of you guys knew of anybody in the raleigh NC area that works on cb radios...i can install the stuff myself, but i don't have all the equipment to test it ande make sure it's doing what it supposed to be doing...any help in finding someone that can help me out would be greatly appreciated!

Well to start off i am not saying your radio doesnot but it would have to have been modded good to have duel finals. Because stock it only has on final.
The amp in line will work if you have good swr-meaning below1.2-1 or so through all 40 and you need to have your radio deakkey set around 2 watts with good swing to drive the amp correctly.

when i bought the raido they optioned different mods so i had them do everything they could to it...when i got it they said the mods included were dual finals...this is exactly why i'm trying to find someone around here that knows a little more about this subject...i do know that my radio has about a 2 watt dk on low and a 12 watt dk on high...so obviously i'd be running on low when i use the amp...i'm just looking for someone around raleigh nc that can help me out...please let me know if you know of anyone! thanks

First off, Welcome to the Forum.
BTW, Huntmaster in German is Jaegermeister.
No idea where I was going with that, just some useless trivia, courtesy of PA 629.
As far as a reliable tech in the RDU area, I have a few ex-truck driver friends that ran that area a lot. I don't know if any of them ever used anybody around there for emergencies, but I'll check and see. I'm sure somebody here will be able to steer you in the right direction.

thanks for all the replies guys...i bought the radio from pace which out of texas...that's about all i can tell you...i bought it about 5 years ago...it has worked great and can really talk a long way without any power behind it...the dual finals are the only mod that sticks out in my mind, but i'm assuming there were more done as i ordered the radio with a maximum tune...that's about all i can tell you guys....hopefully someone can let me know about somebody in the area that works on the radios to make sure everything is right
Those Twister amps are pretty bad to the bone amps in my opinion i have a lil 250-V Twister running it behind my Galaxy 99-V and man that is a bad a_ _ little setup for what it is i get alot of compliments on it. Have been told by a CB Shop down the road that sales these amps that they are built pretty similar to the DaveMade i duno thats just what he says but i think you got yourself a pretty kick butt lil amp there han.

I am very pleased with mine and would like to get a bigger 1 but this guy here in Royce City is freakin outragous on his price so i ended up with a EastCoast and am now going to try a DaveMade to see which performs better and never know i may end up haveing to go get me 1 of them Twister 10 pills but man have to sale his house to afford to buy 1 of them cottonpickers.
well i've got it all hooked up and it seems to be working...just talked to some guys on the interstate and they said there was a big difference when i turned the amp on...i just wish i had somewhere to take it and make sure i've done everything as good as i can so i don't burn anything up...thanks for all the replies
if your sure you have a good SWR and your DeadKey is set at 2 watts you shouldn't have any probs except findin mudducks to squash is the only prob i can think of is after awhile you will run out of mudducks until somemore come into your area or the old 1's think they may have got something on ya and try quackin a lil bit more and when they do just shut em up.
i'm running a 102" whip mounted on the bumper...swr seems to be good...the galaxy dx949 has a built in swr meter that throws a warning light when it is bad...when i key the mic the needle barely moves...it does pick up a little bit 1.3-1.5ish when i turn the juice to it...deadkey is at 2 watts on the low side and about 12 on the high side...obvioulsy i have to run on the low side when using the amp...if i ever get the truck cleaned up some i'll take some pictures and post em...it's a 2002 dodge dakota with 3" body lift and 305/70/16 (33 X 12.50) dunlop mud rover tires...it's an awesome hunting truck when i can keep it running...love the truck, but it's the last dodge i'll ever own!
as for the swr meter on the radio, i've tested it against an swr meter that i bought and they give pretty much the same readings so i'm pretty confident in it

yep that looks just like mine except mine has a variable knob on it where yours has the black patch awesome little amp man. Where did you get that thing at ive seen several of the lil 250-V's around here and i saw a 8 pill once but that's all ive seen of these Twisters. Yours does have the Diamond Plate cover on it rite?
Duck Commander...you aren't going to believe this...i got this amp from a hunting buddy that wasn't using it...his brother had it in his rig and it quit working so he thought it was messed up so he bought another amp and that one wouldn't work either so he did a little researching around in his truck and found that the power source he was using had an inline fuse that was blown and that's why the amps wouldn't turn on anymore...so he gave this amp to his brother whom i got it from...all it cost me was the promise of two puppies when i breed my female deer hound...how's that for being in the right place at the right time! and yes it has the diamond plate all around it...it is nice to know now when i am chasing my hounds that i can still talk to the guys that are hunting even if i'm a long ways off...i'd still love to have someone around here take a look at my setup and make sure everything looks good...the only thing i have left to do is put an inline fuse in it before i really start to use it much
just as a side note, i have nothing but good things to say about the galaxy 949 that i have in my truck...i would love to hook it up somewhere and see what it's actually pushing stock...i was told by the people at pacetronics when i bought it that it would do 30-40 watts after their mods...without the tools to test it though it's hard to know if they really did anything to it or not

Sounds like u n me maybe a lot a like any chance i get im hitn da woods or da creeks or da lakes whichever comes to me 1st. So i guess yall run deer over there in da Carolinas huh that seems like it would be hard to and possibly dangerous to do or i think it would be doin it with the group of guys i hunt with man i can only imagine wweeeeewwwwweeeeeee it scary actually.
yeah we are the big bad rogue deerhunters as some like to call us...we run the poor little things with the dogs...there's nothin like the sound of 20 walkers behind a deer about 7:30 in the morning with frost on the ground...hearing that train coming atcha will make your knees knock! i'm lookin forward to playin around with this radio a little more...only thing that concerns me a little is the swr goes up a little bit when i put the power to it...it's almost flatlined when the power is off but when i turn the juice on it goes to about 1.3ish...still not bad, but i'm new to having some power behind my radio and i don't want to burn it up
im perty sure you guna be fine with a SWR of 1.3 with power turned on it should go up with power on because you will have more watts to reflect when you have power turned on. Example when you have your radio power on low you have a DK of 2 watts so you only have 2 watts to show reflect on your meter when you turn the amp on and key up you have just say 100-150watts to show reflect from so yeah its guna be a lil higher with power to it than with 2 watts to it.
