Looking to get a good base setup. Has this radio got good power and can it be run on both 10 and 11 meter. Can they be modified/superwacked?

What is a good antenna to go with it and what kind of height am I looking at? I live in the woods and don't wanna run guy wires.

Thanks

Here's some info for you:

Designed to enhance any serious operators shack, this rack-mounted unit offers exceptional sound quality and large, easy-to-use controls. The RICI-2995DC has features that include: AM-CW-FM-SB modes of operation, variable power, noise blanker and built-in heavy duty AC power supply and provides 150 watts PEP output, and a rear panel frequency meter output for measuring transmit operating frequency.

Dual panel meters display received signal strength transmitter power output and antenna SR. Clarified audio tone controls for accurate receiver tuning improved reception under difficult conditions. Push button selection of programming scanning functions, and programmable repeater split for FM operation enhances the renewed 10 meter repeater activity.

The RICI-2995DC offers microprocessor-based advanced features typically found in high-end units costing several times as much, including programmable repeater offset and capabilities for a CT'S tone option — great for increasing repeater activity on 10 meters — and receiver scanning for quick search of active frequencies. The unit offers three methods of frequency selection, non-volatile memory to store and scan up to ten favorite frequencies, scanning of selected frequency segment or stored frequencies and front panel frequency selector lockout .

In addition, the RICI-2995DC offers an impressive array of design and performance improvements:
An improved receiver: designed for increased sensitivity and image rejections.
A double FEAT balanced mixer: for improved receiver inter-modulation rejection.
Surface mount components: for increased resistance to shock and vibration.
Variable Power Output from 150 watts to 2 watts - great for PS-31 operation.

Features:

10 & 12 meter bands
Large frequency display with dimmer
Improved receiver design
New green back-light display
Variable output power control
Active frequency scanner
Ten programmable frequencies
Programmable repeater split
Receiver clarified (±0.5kHz)
Dual panel meters
Noise blanker/ANAL circuitry
Frequency selector lockout
Continuous duty built-in AC power supply
2 year warranty
RICI-2995DC Detailed Specifications

What's different in the 2995DC from 2990?

An improved receiver: designed for increased sensitivity and image rejections.
A double FEAT balanced mixer: for improved receiver inter-modulation rejection.
New power supply protection: and temperature compensation for improved stability and reliability over wide temperature ranges.
Surface mount components: for increased resistance to shock and vibration.
Improved display lighting: for easy reading in a wide range of light conditions.
Green back lit display
Frequency range now 12-10 meters.

What they don't tell you about surface mount technology is that although they are supposed to be more vibration proof they are prone to cold solder joints.Just sent one back to RCI with the same problem and I know a few guys having issues with them.I'm not saying you shouldn't buy one just do your research.

SMT is a good thing, What do you think your pc and all other small electronics have in them???
Sure you may have a bad one now and again, But its the customer service after the fact that determines what is a good piece.

Unfortunately I don't agree with you on smt Distributor, PC and small electronics are fine, but not in radios.

You have to have an awfully steady hand to work on them and/or a $15,000.00 soldering iron.

No thanks.

No need to do a lot of mods to a 2995. I have one that i got last week and after a basic tune i am seeing around 200 pep watts. No need to clip this or turn that because if you do you will screw up the performance of the radio on SSB. If you live in the woods find a tall tree an stick a Imax 2000 as high up as you can get. That's all you will need!
