SWP 4600 DK?
SWP 4600 DK?
This is from the TRADE section, but it has carried over to a question.
The reason I was looken to swap, is the DK on my 4600 is 45 watts and swings to 200 watts. Im still getten smashed around here. I would like to push between 400-600 watts. I would have to lower the DK on the 4600. That would mean shippen it to Mike. The radio is nice the way it is. Works perfect, I was thinken about the HI-LO switch that the Lee has. I had a Gen Washington I got from Stickman, but I sold it to a friend. It had the HI-Low as well. Ya think I should have the DK lowered? Just stick with the 4600.

I have a 4600 turbo. Mine is set to 30watts low and 60 watt high.
I used to have it set at 45 watts low and 90 watts high , but now I'm running a 4pill fatboy with it; so i set it down to 30 watts to drive the FATBOY amp.
With this setup and the amp on I'm deadkeying 450 watts. swinging on up to 575 RMS. or 575X2.82= 1621 approx PEP. on 15volts

1st, a 450 watt DK is WAY too much for a 4 pill.. You should be DK'ing closer to 150..
2nd, your math is broke.. 1,621 watts from a 4 pill ? You can't be serious to even think that is possible on 20 volts, let alone the 15 you claim
Some of the number claims I see posted are funny, then some are just out right ridiculous.
For the original question, you have 2 choices.. Keep your radio and get a 6 pill or do what you have already figured out and that is to get a radio and an amp.. I would much rather have the General and an external amp than a radio with a built in.. You also have to consider how or if you can even feed a bigger amp..

Before you go off on me some more.
Check with ALA another sponsor and see what a 4 pill fatboy can do;
Also check to see what it can take as far as DK
ALA said it would take 10 watts dk to 30 watts dk
The builder of the amp said it would take 10 to 100 watts dk
I found out that over 30 watts it sounded distorted, so i set it at 30 watts,
and don't forget that the 4600 turbo has 2x 2290 in it all ready ; so that driving the 4 pill to 450 dk. If i set the radio lower the dk will come down, but i like the way is sounds and puts out.
As far as i can see it does what Fatboy says it does.
Maybe i should just say it swings to 575, and leave the PEP readings alone. to simplify things.

The 4600 turbo has a variable knob on it why would you want to put a switch in it
When you get these radios set right they're about the loudest mobile radios I have ever heard.
