Option C:

I'd wait on the the 200 GTL until you look at some of the other radios out there.

Stryker 440, Galaxy 45MP, Galaxy 99V, General Lee, etc.

Think it through, give it some time. Regretting a radio purchase really sucks.

I have heard of flaky problems with the Cobra 200's. I'm not sure if they have all the wrinkles ironed out yet.

Al at Sparky's CB shack seems to have a good reputation.
Mike, at RadioActiveRadio's, has a long list of "Oh my God this Radio is awesome" testamonials.

Welcome to the forum,,,,200GTL's have had alot of changes, new ones have all the updates, no way to turn off the talkback, alot of radio for the money, just a nightmere to work on, but they do talk!

Maverick,
Do you have a 2950DX that works well? I got frustrated with mine and sold it. Too much receive noise. I never had it through a really good tech though.

I have a 200GTL DX and I love this radio. I think it is a lot of radio for the price. It has a few quirks that take a few days to get used to. Stock speaker and Mic have to go from the start. Drifter wrote a good review and I think he is dead on.

Cobra 200 GTL DX

I have been a CB'r since 1974 and I have to say that this radio has to be the best one I have used. The only other "CB" that can compare is the CPI 2000 Base that I used to own. This Cobra is the later model with the 2290 transistors. I have the low side set at 10 watts with plenty of forward and the high is stock, did not adjust it. I did turn the low power mod up to max. It is a loud, clean lil' booger.

It drove my Dave Made amp nicely and I am sure it will do even better with my next purchase. The audio quality on this rig is outstanding! For the money you can't beat it....my two cents.

i love my 200. haven't had it all that long but its a good radio. yeah there's no talk back controls, if your echos on so is your talk back and that's a little annoying and the stock speaker sucks but i have an external speaker on mine witch really seems to help a lot. i have a dead match to my 102 and i am talking on average of 30 miles with mine running just radio. i haven't hooked it up to a meter to see whats its putting out ( hey BigBopper if you know pm me and let me know would ya) but the radio does talk for sure.

I had mine on the watt meter and I'm not even going to say what it was doing on am. Put yours on a meter, you'll be surprized. I will say that my friend Cam has one in his truck as well, and I've talked to him 70 miles away regularly. I've got a k-40 mag mount on my quad cab and he has a single coil something on the mirror on his big truck.
I think it's a very good radio, but it's just like the ford/chevy/dodge thing, everybody has their own opinions and preferences.
I've heard a barefoot galaxy 99 that dwarfed my snake on raw audio, but given my druthers, I will keep my cobra.

To put it simply ... NO!

Dint waste your money on a radio no one else wants, is prone to failure, hard to work on, dint have all the needed controls, and costs way to much for what you get.

Buy a Conex or Galaxy from a well known dealer like Sparkey's and you will know you got something worth having.
