newbie question band selector button on front of CB?

#57042

Post by jeange »

Hi,
I am totally new to CB radios and I got one because I am starting a trucking career so I got a Midland Superstar 360 as a gift with no manual.
And on the front panel I got a switch to select Low,Mid or High Band.
Which position should this switch be on to be able to communicate with other people?

Welcome to the forum !!! you certainly have found the right place to ask questions about radios. I dont know anything about your particular radio (maybe someone has specifics) The band selector allows you to go above and below the normal 40 channel cb bands. My only suggestion if no one else knows which band is cb on that radio is to put on channel 19 and change the band selector till you hear other drivers talking then you will know which band selector to be on! Good luck! -Rocco

Actually, you need to make SURE you know where you are talking. Just because you hear other truckers talking doesn't mean it is the correct channel. Some of those "channels" are actually part of the international Amateur Radio 10 Meter band. The use of these frequencies requires a license. If you operate on those "channels" the licensed operators will hear you and will turn you into FCC. I'm telling you this 1) because you asked, and 2) because quite a few trucking companies have received letters telling then to STOP operating on the 10 Meter band.

So to answer you question(s), the radios with "band" switches are illegal and the "bands" are illegal as there is only ONE "band" of CB channels.
YMMV!

Use medium "D" setting for regular 1 to 40 (26.965 to 27.405) and you will be OK
