I was sittin here thinkin about more power and was sufin around the various SPONSORS when I happen to see a control which varies your voltage. Nothin new. I've seen them before. Then it hit me.

My new F-250 is diesel powered and has 2 batteries. I assume they're two 12 volt batteries in parallel and not two 6 volts in series. I really don't know. Diesels and 2 batteries are new to me.

But here is what I was thinking. If they are two 12 volt batteries in parallel could I somehow run separate cables and put them in series to make 24 volts? Then I could put that variable voltage control on it and bring it down to 20 volts and kick out some serious wattage.

Running 20volts into pills that are designed to run at 12.5volts will shorten
their life, measured in minutes.

If you had an amplifier that was designed for 24volts, then you could put two car batteries in series and run fine. But then you need an alternator with a 24 to 28v rectifier to charge those batteries.

The big boys that run up to 70,000watts from their suburbans are using tubes that need 8,000volts. Its fun to see them smoke their alternator belts trying to run that stuff.

Thanks. When I saw EC amp specs they listed the specs for 20 volts and the power was like doubled. I don't have room for 2 more batteries and I figured the amp requirement would stay the same.

If you run 2 12 volt batteries in series, yes you will get 24 volts. You will also fry every single electrical system in your truck.

What I have done in the past with competition car audio is run 2 8 volt golf cart batteries in series so we can get 16 volts out of them. Those batteries are on an isolator so they will not affect any other system in the car. This is in addition to the main battery the vehicle already has.
