Suggestions/Advice/Opinios please...
I recently set up my first CB. It is a Uniden PRO538W which I have set up in my Wrangler. Now I know very little when it comes to radio in general so please forgive me if I seem to be rather clueless because...well because I am.
I have the cb wired directly to the battery and a 3 foot Wilson flexible fiberglass antenna mounted to my spare tire carrier. I have grounded the mount to the frame and the cb itself to a bolt inside the Jeep. My SWR's are fine, between 1.2 and 1.5 across all 40 channels. I can transmit & receive fine as far as I can tell from callin out for radio checks, but I have to keep the RF gain at about 12 o'clock or lower and squelch at about the same otherwise I get a ton of engine noise coming through the antenna and/or coax (not the power wires).
I just want to get the best transmit & received I can out of this little radio, without adding an amp or anything as I am still new at this and not quite ready to tackle that kind of thing yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might do to make sure I get the best I can out of this thing? I was thinking maybe a noise cancelling mike and some sort of external speaker. Do you think these would be good investments? What about a peak & tune? Is this even possible with this radio...I dono? Is it worth it if not running an amp? Sorry for the long post and newbie questions...any advice is much appreciated.
