The best one I've ever seen/used is a TA-27.. They make a 30 watt and a 150 watt model.. Make sure you get the 150 watt model..

It will actually improve the quality of the signal and boost it, instead of just amplifying the noise.. If mine quit tomorrow, I would definitely buy another one..

I have had good luck with my MaCo 150 preamp, have had it for years now with no problems, just don't try and hook her up behind an amp, THAT will make the sparks fly! ;)

I've heard nothing but good comments about the mako 150. One individual told me that a radio that swings more than 8 watts will blow the preamp, but I have found that statement to be false. He probably did not understand the term "swing".

I guess it might depend on what radio you are running with. I just bought a Maco 150(rated for 150AM, 250 ssb) and put it behind my RCI2995DX.
All I got was ALOT!! of increased white noise and alot of "broadcast" type radio from south of the border. It SUCKS!! You wouldn't be able to use it on channel 30 or above because of the music and religious radio stations.
1 MACO 150 For Sale CHEAP!!!!!

If you do get a Fat Boy, how about reposting and let us know how "it" works.

Has anybody tried an Ameco PT-3 preamp? Have read pretty good reviews on the Ham sites.
