Thunder,
The noise clipper has two settings, min and max. I have never used max. With the clipper in the min position, there is a slight decrease in receive. I have to have the RF gain all the way up and the squelch all the way open. I can still hear the signals from far away but there is much much decreased static and background noise. Hope this helps some.

Yeah Nightwatcher ,
When I slipseat around some & with some of the small radios like a Uniden 510 ; I use a noise clipper with excellent results. Those particular radios don't have alot of filtering built in like their larger counterparts , so the noise clipper/ chopper works very well in my opinion. I am on the road alot so, I don't miss the static / ground noise . And like Nightwatcher said I use it in the minimum setting unless I have my XM radio on , then I might switch to the MAX setting . With the noise clipper/chopper in the MAX setting you only hear the vehicles extremely close but, I don't miss when a driver tells me to bring it over after a pass.

glad you solved the noise problem.have you tried the old set-up on another car just to see if it was bad coax or antenna? and also was the nylon washer damaged or installed wrong on the mount. sorry to post so late i just joined. i ask because afriend replied "what plastic washer?" when asked about the washer. when installed properly his radio worked fine. thanks for your time just wondering. darkstar
